Q & A with Sam Kaminsky

Q: How and when did you get started playing Ultimate?

I started playing competitive Ultimate when I was 13 (as soon as it became available!) I’ve been throwing a disc since I was probably eight as I grew up watching my older brother play. That’s how I got hooked.

Q: What has been the highlight of your Ultimate career to date?

I love to win! Something I’ve been doing since I was a freshman in high school. So, a highlight of my Ultimate career is winning college nationals!

Q: What do you like best about the Chicago Union and AUDL?

I think what the AUDL does so well is making Ultimate a consumable product. There’s SO much content on social media, AUDL.tv, etc. Which also is a huge nod to Chicago Union’s socials helping lead the way for AUDL content. But beyond the actual product, I love the community that the Chicago Union has helped me build in Chicago. Moving here after college, it’s helped make the city feel smaller and develop friendships.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most this season?

I’m looking forward to playing games in Chicago this season! Loved the Elmhurst field, but now more of my friends and family can easily get to games. So excited to play in front of major crowds this year!

Q: What do you like to do outside of playing Ultimate?

If not playing Ultimate then… watch Ultimate? Ha! If not playing Ultimate, I love to find new places to eat. Chicago boasts amazing restaurants, so trying new foods and restaurants is something I try to do.

Q: What is one interesting fact about you?

I consider myself to be a strong whistler. Not loud, but just good, consistent whistling.

Q: Describe Meez Meals postgame cooking experience? What did you make? What did you like best about it?

I made Chicken Pesto Pizza. I must say, it was DELICIOUS! It was super easy to make. I got the meal delivered, put it in my fridge, and made it two days later. My favorite part was stretching the dough. Making pizza is always fun, so having a healthy, fresh pizza within 30 minutes is great. The whole-wheat dough was crispy while still having the nice fluff you would want. I hope Meez Meals has more pesto dishes because the pesto was SO SO good. Highly recommend the chicken pesto pizza, and I know all the other meals must be just as delicious.
