Pittsburgh faces Raleigh for first time in franchise history

July 14, 2021

The Pittsburgh Thunderbirds are back at JC Stone Field this Saturday, July 17 at 1:30pm. They’ll take on the Raleigh Flyers for the first time in franchise history.

The Thunderbirds are coming off their first win of the season; they took down the Philadelphia Phoenix 23-20 in the battle for Pennsylvania two weeks ago at home. 2019 All-Star Game MVP Max Sheppard returned to form after struggling with turnovers through the first four games, finishing with two assists, four goals, and a perfect 14-of-14 throwing performance. His counterpart Thomas Edmonds was also turnover free, completing all 44 of his throws with over 500 total yards and five scores.

Starting off slow is nothing new for the Thunderbirds; the team started 0-3 in 2019 before stringing together six straight wins on their way to an 8-4 season. After losing their first four games to start the 2021 season, they’ll take a 1-4 record into a tough matchup with the 4-2 Flyers. The Flyers are on a four-game win streak after starting the year with two one-goal losses.

Tickets for this game are available at the official team store.
