The Madison Radicals (1-0) showed off their height and defense in their 2018 season opening win on the road against the Indianapolis AlleyCats (0-1). The Radicals held a slim 6-5 lead at the beginning of the second quarter before going on a 8-1 run that stretched into the second half and made the gap insurmountable. Madison is now 16-0 all-time against Indianapolis.
The Radicals tallied 16 blocks by 10 different defenders on the evening. Andrew Meshnick led Madison with three blocks, while Nate Bosscher, Sterling Knoche, Logan Pruess, and Matt Weber; the 37-year-old Bosscher was playing in his Radicals debut after playing with the San Jose Spiders in 2014.
The team struggled a bit offensively in their first match of the season, completing an uncharacteristically low 91 percent of their throws on the evening. Ben Nelson (team-high 27 completions) and Pat Shriwise (team-high four assists) added stability, though, as neither player committed a turnover. Big receiving target Tarik Akyuz led the Radicals with four goals in his Madison debut.
Madison now gets set to host the Minnesota Wind Chill next Saturday, April 14 at Breese Stevens Field in their 2018 home opener.
