Ottawa kicks off the Canada Cup with Toronto matchup on Saturday

July 22, 2021

For the first time in over 700 days, the Ottawa Outlaws return to Carleton University’s MNP Park Stadium this Saturday, July 24 at 6pm against the Toronto Rush. Saturday’s game kicks off the inaugural Canada Cup, a 13-game series between the three Canadian teams of the AUDL: Montreal Royal, Ottawa Outlaws, and Toronto Rush.

The AUDL announced the Canada Cup format at the beginning of June, a solution to allow the Canadian teams to play games in spite of travel restrictions at the US-Canada border. Each team will play eight regular season games—two home, two away games against the other two teams—and the Canada Cup Championship game will be a one-game “winner take all” match between the top two teams from regular season play. They will compete for a $5,000 prize and the newly minted Canada Cup trophy.

The Outlaws will be looking to pick up where they left off in 2019, as they defeated the Philadelphia Phoenix in their final game of the season. Returning for the team this year is 2019 All-Star Alec Arsenault, who has led the team in goals each of the last three seasons. He ranks just outside the top-20 (22nd) in career goals with 175; he’ll look to continue to ascend the leaderboard this summer.

Tickets for this game are available at the official team store.
