AUDL Honor Roll: Week 2

April 16, 2019
By Evan Lepler

Throughout the 2019 season, the AUDL’s weekly honor roll will be revealed each Monday, honoring seven players whose individual exploits merit recognition. The players are listed alphabetically by last name.

  1. Jeff Babbitt, New York Empire - Defenses will have to pick their poison all season long when trying to stop the New York Empire, but Jeff Babbitt certainly gave the Empire offense a critical boost on Saturday night, registering five goals on the night. He scored two of his team’s first three goals in the opening quarter, then scored twice more in the fourth to help close out the pesky DC Breeze.

  2. Kevin Brown, Madison Radicals - It appears the Madison Radicals have another efficient Brown in the backfield. The younger brother of veteran handler Andrew Brown, Kevin Brown has been a potent offensive player when healthy throughout his career, but previously had been utilized more as a downfield initiator and continuation hucker. On Saturday against Indy, however, Brown joined Pat Shriwise as the primary Madison handlers and delivered a magnificent performance, completing all but one of his 62 throws with six assists in the Radicals road win over the Indianapolis AlleyCats.

  3. Jonathan Helton, San Diego Growlers - The former two-time AUDL MVP has meshed immediately with his new team, recording four goals and 12 assists in his first two games as a San Diego Growler. On Saturday, Jonathan Helton had the goal, assist, or hockey assist on more than half of his team’s total scores, registering two goals, eight assists, and three hockey assists in San Diego’s dramatic 25-24 buzzer-beating victory over the San Jose Spiders.

  4. Danny Landesman, Los Angeles Aviators - Just 18 years old, Danny Landesman made quite an impression in his AUDL debut, catching five goals, dishing one assist, and completing all 10 of his throws in the Los Angeles Aviators' Friday night triumph over the Spiders. The 5’11” teenager more than looked like he belonged, leading Los Angeles in plus/minus and coming down with several contested discs in the end zone.

  5. Rowan McDonnell, DC Breeze - Though the Breeze could not hang on to their 10-9 halftime lead against New York, Rowan McDonnell’s unstoppable versatility shined throughout the night in DC’s season opener. Solid performances from several of his teammates ensured he would not just be a one-man show, but Rowan still scored or assisted on half of his team’s 18 goals.

  6. Kevin Pettit-Scantling, Madison Radicals - Playing with the swagger of a champion, Kevin Pettit-Scantling instantly set the tone for the Radicals in their 2019 opener. He launched an impressive hammer that broke Indy’s offense on the very first point, recorded a hockey assist on another Radicals’ break a few points later, and finished the first quarter with two blocks. Without the strong start, the Radicals probably would not have escaped Indiana with a win.

  7. Noah Saul, Raleigh FlyersIt has been amazing to watch Noah Saul distribute the disc so far this year. On Saturday against the Hustle, his steadiness manifested itself in the form 85 completions without a turn. In three games, in fact, Saul’s only throwaway was the costly backhand off the sideline that Dallas’ Kai Marshall intercepted in the Flyers’ opener. Aside from that one error, Saul is 161-for-161, with 13 assists, five of which came in Raleigh’s come-from-behind win over Atlanta this past weekend.
