Ann M. Buff, MD, MPH, Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Buff is a board-certified medical epidemiologist with over 20 years of clinical and public health experience in military, government, non-profit, and international organization settings. She joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in 2006. She has served as a senior technical advisor to the World Health Organization, U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative, and most recently, Global Health Security, with a focus on preventing, detecting, and responding to public health emergencies and threats. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, she has advised businesses, educational institutions, non-profits, states, and Ministries of Health. Dr. Buff graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and received a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Public Health Service and retired with the rank of Captain.
Young Byun, MD, MBA, FAAP, Neonatology.
Dr. Byun graduated from Harvard University and the Emory University School of Medicine and received his Pediatrics and Newborn Medicine training from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Texas Health Huguley Hospital. Dr. Byun is also an Assistant Professor at Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine. He is the general manager and one of the founding owners of the Dallas Roughnecks.
Christina Lee Chung, MD, FAAD, Dermatology.
Dr. Chung is a board-certified dermatologist with Schweiger Dermatology Group. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Chung spent 12 years in academic medicine as Associate Professor of Dermatology at Drexel University. There she co-founded and served as Director of the Drexel Dermatology Center for Transplant Patients, a multidisciplinary initiative focused on developing novel delivery models to provide dermatologic care to immunocompromised individuals. Her team was the first to identify skin cancer risk factors unique to organ transplant recipients of color and their findings have impacted global screening, treatment, and patient education protocols. Dr. Chung has served on the Board of Directors of the International Immunosuppression and Transplant Skin Cancer Collaborative and her research has been supported by the Skin Cancer Foundation, Pennsylvania State CURE Fund, and Coulter-Drexel Translational Research Partnership. Dr. Chung is a graduate of Amherst College and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. She completed her training in Dermatology at Drexel University School of Medicine. She is a co-owner of the Philadelphia Phoenix.
Sommer Hammoud, MD, Orthopedics.
Dr. Hammoud is an ABOS board-certified sports medicine surgeon with the Rothman Institute and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and fellowship in sports medicine at the Harvard program at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has significant experience in professional sports, having worked in conjunction with the NFL, MLB and MLS, as well as in collegiate athletics. Dr. Hammoud currently is the Head Team Physician for the Division I Saint Joseph's University. She joined the Philadelphia Phoenix as Head Team Physician in 2019 and will serve as the inaugural Chairwoman of the AUDL Medical Advisory Committee.
Marc I. Harwood, MD, Sports Medicine.
Dr. Harwood is a board-certified Associate Professor of Sports Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and serves as the Service Chief of the Non-Operative Sports Medicine Division at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. He is currently a team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies - a position he has held since 2005. Dr. Harwood is a past president of the Major League Baseball Team Physicians Association and is an active member of the Medical Advisory Committee for Major League Baseball. He also serves as a team physician for the St. Joseph’s University NCAA Division 1 athletic program and cares for elite level dancers at the Pennsylvania Ballet. He is a consultant to Athletes and the Arts and has been an active member on the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science’s research committee.
Peter Thomas, PhD, MPH, Senior Epidemiologist.
Dr Peter Thomas is an epidemiologist and Sr research scientist with more than 18 years of service at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as a Commissioned Officer in the US Public Health Service. He currently provides technical support to Field Epidemiology and Training Programs (FETP) in several African countries to help strengthen country capacity to conduct disease surveillance, and to investigate and report critical public health threats. During his service at CDC, Dr Thomas has been posted in Washington, DC as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer (EIS), in Benin, Uganda, and Atlanta. In addition to his work addressing health disparities in communities of color in the US, Dr Thomas has responded to global health threats including Polio, HIV, Ebola, malaria, in the US and in more than 15 countries.He is a co-owner of the Atlanta Hustle.
David Shipon, MD, FACC, Cardiology.
Dr. Shipon is a board-certified cardiologist and serves as Director of Preventive Cardiology, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Sports Cardiology Jefferson Health. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and Rehab Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Dr. Shipon specializes in sports cardiology and his area of focus is on preventive strategies to prevent sudden cardiac death in athletes across the spectrum of ages and games. He is the sports cardiologist for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phillies, and Eagles, many of the local universities, and high schools. Dr. Shipon is active in the non-profit sector, serving as Chief Medical Officer of Simon’s Fund and Director of the Athlete Health Organization of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Shipon practices non-invasive cardiology and has worked with the NCAA task force for cardiology and internationally on electrocardiogram criteria for athletes.
Kenneth Taylor, MD, FACP, FACC, FASE, FHFSA, Cardiology.
Dr. Taylor is a Cardiologist at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta and is the founder and medical director of the Piedmont Center for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and a member of Piedmont’s Sports Medicine Program. He holds board certifications in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation as well as Nuclear Cardiology and Echocardiography. Dr. Taylor earned his undergraduate degree from Williams College and his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and his cardiology fellowship at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr Taylor was recently named Team Cardiologist for the Atlanta Hustle.
