Signing Spotlight: Natasha Won
International superstar Natasha Won will be competing with the FlameThrowers this weekend and is one of the big playmakers on our women’s roster. A versatile athlete, she has competed with Polar Bears and Nightlock and was a member of the 2013 U23 USA Mixed team, the 2014 Beach Worlds USA Mixed team, the 2016 and 2017 Worlds mixed teams for New Zealand, and the 2017 Beach Worlds New Zealand Mixed team. When she’s not playing ultimate, she holds the title for most fashionable member of the FlameThrowers but can also teach you a thing or two about Fortnite. Read on for a Q&A with her!
Where are you from originally?
I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand but have been living in the bay since I was 9.
What did you study in school? What's your job now?
I studied Business Management Economics at UC Santa Cruz. I currently work at Poshmark (Fashion Company) as a community Manager. I own a boutique on Poshmark where I source items from wholesalers.
How did you first discover ultimate? Did you play any other sports?
My favorite teacher in High School - Allen Thoe, played JAM (a club team in SF) and wanted to start a club team at our school. I went to the first practice just to check it out and was hooked immediately. I did hurdles, triple jump & long jump in High School.
What influenced your decision to try out for the FlameThrowers?
I am motivated to shatter this "glass ceiling" for women in pro sports. I think FTs are taking the right steps and I want to be a part of that process.
Do you have any personal goals for this season?
I really want everyone to give women's and mixed ultimate a chance. My goal is to play hard and have fun!
Will you be playing with any other teams this spring / summer? If so, which teams?
What would you like to tell fans attending your upcoming games?
Get ready to watch amazing females ball out on the field! Also bring a friend!
What's your favorite throw?
Backhand (I know, so boring)
Can you tell us a personal highlight from last year?
Last year on Nightlock I finally didn't feel like such a rookie and I felt like people valued my opinion whenever they wanted feedback.
What's something you'd like your future teammates to know about you?
I play a game called Fortnite and they can find me on twitch via @sneezytoast
What is your current pregame pump up song?
