New York takes on Philadelphia at home Friday

July 7, 2021

The reigning American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) champion New York Empire are back at Joseph F. Fosina Field this Friday, July 9 at 7:00pm. They’ll take on the Philadelphia Phoenix, as the Empire look to bounce back following their first loss since 2018.

Prior to this past weekend, the Empire had won 18 consecutive games dating back to the start of 2019, which included the third undefeated season in AUDL history. After defeating the DC Breeze by one goal each of their last three meetings, the Breeze finally got the better of them this past weekend. The last loss for the Empire came in the 2018 semifinals against the Dallas Roughnecks, a team they later defeated to take home the 2019 AUDL title.

While they haven’t looked as dominant as they did in 2019, the Empire are still in playoff position in the Atlantic Division, sitting at 3-1 in third place. Their Week 6 opponent, the Philadelphia Phoenix, have lost their last three games after starting the season 2-0. It’s the teams’ first meeting of the season; in their last meeting the Empire narrowly edged out the Phoenix 22-20 at home.

Tickets to the game are available on the official team store.
