Six New Teams and a Western Division To Debut In Upcoming Season

Chicago - The American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) Commissioner Steve Gordon announced today that the AUDL will be expanding to 18 teams for the 2014 season. The Montreal Royal will be joining the Eastern Conference and the new Western Conference will begin play with the participation of the Salt Lake City Lions, San Francisco FlameThrowers, San Jose Spiders, Seattle Raptors and Vancouver Riptide.

“We are very excited about the growth and expansion of the AUDL” said Commissioner Gordon. “The Montreal Royal franchise provides us with a strong strategic fit in the east. Coupled with our expanded presence to the west coast, the AUDL is truly establishing a national foot print in strong Ultimate markets and becoming an international league”.

Gordon went on to say that while the long term plan calls for continued expansion through 2017, it also will be measured growth based on selective markets and viable owners. “The interest we’re seeing from prospective owners has been abundant, exciting and in markets that are part of our strategic expansion plans”, said Gordon. “It is apparent that the positive steps we’ve taken over the last year continue to strengthen the league and the increased interest we’re seeing from prospective owners and investors certainly supports that premise. We’re very excited about our future and look forward to these great new teams joining us on the field in 2014”.
