Two Time MVP Jonathan Helton Signs With Raleigh Flyers

February 20, 2017

On Saturday, the Raleigh Flyers announced the acquisition of two-time AUDL MVP Jonathan Helton. A five year veteran of the league, Raleigh will be Helton's third team in as many seasons. He ranks second all-time in league history in assists (181), ninth in goals (131), and second in blocks (113).

More than just his individual accomplishments, Helton's successes have translated to wins for each team he has played on. He has made the playoffs in every season, qualifying in 2012 with the Indianapolis AlleyCats before leading the Chicago Wildfire to three straight appearances from 2013-2015. Last season, Helton and the DC Breeze finished the regular season 10-4, winning their first round matchup against the New York Empire before falling 23-21 in overtime to the Toronto Rush in the divisional finals; Helton threw the game-tying assist as regulation expired to send the game to overtime.

The DC Breeze executed an onside pull before Jonathan Helton tied the game up with a buzzer-beating assist.

Helton will join a Flyers squad that finished in second place in the South Division with a 9-5 regular season record in 2016. Raleigh lost to divisional rival Atlanta Hustle in the opening round of the playoffs.
