Seattle Cascades To Host Cascades Cup Mixed Gender Exhibition

February 1, 2017

The Seattle Cascades announced today that they will be hosting a mixed gender exhibition match in conjunction with the San Francisco FlameThrowers. Known as the Cascades Cup, the game will take place in Seattle at Memorial Stadium, with the exact date yet to be decided; the event will take place on either the weekend of April 15-16, or May 26-27.

"The Titcomb family have been pioneers in advancing Ultimate in so many ways and this is just another example of their passion to advance it for everyone," AUDL Commissioner Steve Gordon said of the Seattle ownership group's efforts to create the event. "I would encourage all to come out to support their efforts and enjoy what is sure to be a fun and exciting evening."

Each team will select 10 men and 10 women to their roster. As of this release, there is no indication if teams will play seven versus seven, or if there will be an established gender ratio for each lineup on the field. The winning team will receive a cash prize.

The game is not a part of either team's official 14-game regular season AUDL schedule. The full 2017 season schedule is expected to be finalized within the coming days.

“There are female athletes in our city who deserve equal playing opportunities to their male counterparts," said Xtehn Titcomb, partial owner of the Cascades franchise. "This game, we hope, will be the catalyst for a broader sequence of actions within our sport to provide greater playing opportunities for women."
